Africa Awakes launches in Nairobi.
The Founder of ICROSS Dr. Michael Meegan opened the Africa Awakes exhibition in Nairobi this week. The multimedia event was covered by TV, Radio and National Media in Kenya’s capital city and was attended by representatives from NGO’s, embassies and communities where ICROSS works.
The purpose of the exhibition is to balance the many distorted images of Africa in media. Manuel Scrima unveiled a series of new images that will join a larger exhibition unveiled in Tampere, Finland at the beginning of September.
Africa Awakes shares the work of ICROSS and its new campaign New World International to be launched in October.
The images displayed in Nairobi have drawn widespread acclaim and highlight the majesty, dignity and courage of woman and children in Africa. The Exhibition at the New Horseman in Karen runs until the end of the month.
“We really need a counter balance for all the negative images people have of Africa,” said Patrick NgaNga Country Director of ICROSS in Kenya. The exhibition will tour Europe with over 200 photographs and paintings.
